Amphiarâi vatis, et Eriphyles fil. Huic pater, ad bellum proficisci coactus, nequitiam Eriphyles in se aperuit, eique futurae mortis suae vindictam reliquit; qui defunctô patre memor praecepti, ut in patrem pietatem servaret, impius in matrem factus est, eamque necavit. Huic fabulae a ceteris additur, quum postea ob matris caedem Alcmaeon furiis agitaretur, venisse ad fluv. Phlegeum, a quo lustratus est, et cum filiam eiusdem Alphesiboeam amâsset, donatô illi monili, quod matris Eriphyles fuerat, uxorem illam duxisse: ceterum cum aliquando ad Acheloum fluv. post ea tempora forte rediisset, placuissetque ipsi Callirhoe Acheloi filia, monile, quod superiori coniugi dederat, etiam huic, nuptiarum spe, pollicitum esse. Ad quod repetendum cum proficisceretur, a fratribus Alphesiboeae, Themone, et Azione, occisum esse: qui tamen et ipsi ab eodem mutuis vulneribus petiti, perierunt: vel, ut Ovidius videtur sentire, a filiis Callirrhoes, quos Iuppiter natos statim Deos fecerat, in ultionem patris occisi sunt.
